LA RL886377 · CL69991 Fully Insured FORTIFIED-Approved CertainTeed ShingleMaster Drone + Infrared Documentation Written Scope for Any Claim

South Louisiana sees more named storms and severe thunderstorm activity than almost any region in the country — and the roof is the part of your house that takes the hit first. After the wind dies down and the immediate tarping is done (our emergency repair page covers that triage), the question becomes what permanent repair scope your roof actually needs: a single-slope shingle replacement, a multi-section repair, or a full replacement that the insurance claim funds. Epic Roofing documents the damage, writes a scope you can compare against any adjuster's assessment, and performs the repair when the claim is resolved or the homeowner decides to fund it out of pocket.

We are a Louisiana-licensed roofer, not a public adjuster, and we will not file your insurance claim for you — but we will provide the documentation that supports an honest coverage decision and the written scope that a reasonable carrier can review. Drone aerial imagery on every roof slope, infrared moisture scan where applicable, attic check, and a written CompanyCam report. Call (225) 819-3742.

What Storm Damage Looks Like on a South Louisiana Roof

Different storm types produce different damage patterns. The repair scope follows the damage type — there is no one-size-fits-all storm repair.

Wind damage (named storms, severe thunderstorms, straight-line wind)

Lifted or torn-off shingles (most common on ridge lines and exposed slopes facing the wind direction), displaced flashing at chimneys and sidewalls, ridge cap separation, and torn underlayment exposed where shingles were lost. Wind damage often appears minor from the ground, leaving the underlayment exposed to the next rain event.

Tree-fall and large-debris impact

A fallen branch or tree section can puncture the decking, fracture rafters, or shatter shingles in a localized area. The visible scope is usually obvious; the hidden scope (structural framing damage, decking rot from water that has already entered) requires drone and attic inspections to fully map.

Tornado scope

Louisiana sees roughly 30–50 tornadoes annually — most in Spring and late Fall. Tornado damage is often patchy and severe, with extreme wind events producing both shingle loss and structural rotation in framing. Tornado-scope repair often requires a Louisiana-licensed structural engineer's review before the roof scope can be finalized.

Post-hurricane secondary damage

After the named storm passes, the second wave of damage often shows up days or weeks later — fallen branches that loosened in the wind but did not detach until the next storm, decking that absorbed water and developed rot, and ventilation that was compromised but not visibly damaged. The post-event inspection catches this.

Hail damage is a separate scope with its own repair playbook and insurance-discount math — see our hail damage repair page. The immediate post-storm triage (tarping, board-up, dry-in) is covered on our emergency repair page.

Is the Damage Worth Filing a Claim For?

Most LA homeowners file storm-damage claims without first asking whether the math makes sense. Three considerations before you call your carrier.

Deductible math

Louisiana wind/hail deductibles are typically 1%–5% of the dwelling coverage amount — meaning a $300,000 home with a 2% wind deductible carries a $6,000 deductible on hurricane-related claims. If the scope of damage is below the deductible, filing the claim does not result in a payout and may still affect your renewal.

Premium and renewal impact

Some LA carriers raise premiums after a storm claim or decline renewal after multiple claims in a short window. The post-Ida non-renewal wave taught many South Louisiana homeowners that lesson the hard way. A free inspection that documents the scope before you file lets you make an informed decision.

Documentation quality

If you do file, the documentation quality drives the scope the adjuster writes — and the scope drives the payout. A documented inspection in writing before the carrier's adjuster shows up is the single highest-leverage move a homeowner can make. We do not file the claim for you, but we provide the documentation that supports the conversation. The insurance claim roofing page walks through the full boundary discipline and adjuster-meeting process.

What Epic Roofing Repairs in Storm Scope

Storm-damage repair scope covers everything from a single-slope wind-lifted shingle area to multi-section tree-impact damage. The work list below is what shows up most often in South Louisiana storm claims.

  • Wind-lifted or torn-off shingles — pull damaged shingles, replace with matching Atlas or CertainTeed product line, seal in accordance with manufacturer's specifications.
  • Ridge cap separation or loss — replace ridge cap shingles matched to the field shingle line; no mismatched-lot ridge that shows up on inspection.
  • Displaced flashing — chimney, sidewall, valley flashing repaired or replaced where wind-displaced or storm-damaged.
  • Tree-fall decking patch — cut out damaged decking, install new plywood section, reseal seams, replace underlayment, and shingles over the patch.
  • Water-damaged underlayment replacement — when storm-driven water saturates the underlayment, replacing it during the repair prevents future leak paths.
  • Ventilation repair — wind events often dislodge ridge vents, soffit vents, or attic-vent caps; repair restores the ventilation balance the shingle warranty requires.
  • Coordinated structural assessment — when tree-fall or tornado scope damages framing, we coordinate with a Louisiana-licensed structural engineer on the structural side before the roof scope is finalized. Epic Roofing does not do structural framing work; we sequence with the framer or engineer.

The Wind-Rating Upgrade Opportunity

A storm-damage repair is often the right moment to upgrade the wind rating on the affected area — particularly if the original install was below 130-mph rated. The math is rarely the same for a small repair vs. an insurance-funded full replacement.

Small-scope storm repair

For repairs covering a single slope or section, we match the existing shingle product so the repair blends visually with the rest of the roof. Upgrading just the repaired area to a higher wind rating creates a visible product mismatch and does not improve the wind resistance of the rest of the roof.

Insurance-funded full replacement

If the storm scope drives a full replacement, the wind-rating upgrade decision becomes meaningful. Atlas Pinnacle Pro is a 130-mph standard; the StormMaster lines add Class 4 impact resistance at the same wind rating; CertainTeed Landmark Pro upgrades to 130 mph with enhanced nailing (Epic Roofing applies the enhanced nailing pattern by default). For homeowners ready to push further, a FORTIFIED upgrade adds documented hurricane resistance at the entire-roof-system level and qualifies for the $10,000 Louisiana FORTIFIED Roof Grant for income-qualified households.

★★★★★
"They wrote the scope before I called my insurance carrier. The adjuster wrote the same scope two weeks later." Hurricane Francine took a 14-square section of shingles off our back slope. Our neighbor's contractor pressured us to sign that day — Epic walked the roof, sent us the drone photos and written scope in 48 hours, and told us to call our carrier before any work. We filed with Epic's documentation in hand. The adjuster's scope two weeks later matched Epic's almost line for line. No supplements needed. — Verified Google review

Storm Damage Repair FAQs

How fast can you inspect storm damage after a named storm? +

Within 48 hours of landfall across the affected service area. Outside named-storm events: within 24 hours for active leaks; within a week for non-urgent storm-scope documentation.

Should I call you or my insurance carrier first? +

Usually, call us first for a free inspection so you have written documentation of the damage before the carrier's adjuster shows up. Documentation quality drives the scope the adjuster writes, and the scope drives the payout. We do not file the claim for you — that is the homeowner's role — but the documentation gives you a real basis for the conversation. The insurance claim roofing page covers the full process.

What if my damage is below my deductible? +

If the scope of damage is below your wind/hail deductible (typically 1%–5% of dwelling coverage for LA policies), filing the claim does not produce a payout. The free inspection gives you the scope estimate in writing so you can compare it against your deductible before you decide. Repairing out of pocket may be the better economic call — and avoids any premium or renewal impact.

A tree fell on my roof. Can Epic Roofing handle all of it? +

We handle the roof scope — shingle replacement, decking patch, underlayment replacement, and flashing repair. If the tree-fall damage to structural framing (rafters, trusses, or sheathing) is beyond the patch scope, it needs a Louisiana-licensed structural engineer and likely a framing contractor. We coordinate sequencing, but we do not perform structural framing work.

Will the storm damage repair void my manufacturer's warranty? +

No — a properly executed repair using manufacturer-approved materials and methods does not void the original shingle warranty. We match the original Atlas, CertainTeed, McElroy, or DaVinci product where possible. If the original installation was performed by a non-certified contractor whose warranty has already lapsed, we will tell you during the inspection.

Should I upgrade the wind rating during the repair? +

Depends on the scope. For small repairs, we match the existing product so the repair blends visually. For insurance-funded full replacements, the wind-rating upgrade math becomes meaningful — Atlas Pinnacle Pro 130-mph, the StormMaster lines (Class 4 + 130-mph), or a FORTIFIED upgrade at the full-system level (with the $10,000 LA grant pathway). Our FORTIFIED page walks through the qualification framework.
