Asphalt Shingle Roofing in Luling, LA
Ashton Plantation's design guidelines choose much of the shingle for you: an architectural profile, a wood-toned color, and a steep main roof. We price Luling shingle roofs based on those rules and the parish's wind requirements.
In most of Luling, the owner picks the shingle. In Ashton Plantation, a good part of that choice was settled years ago when the community's design guidelines were written. They set the minimum pitch of the main roof, the shingle style, the color family, and even where the vent stacks should be located.
A reroof there has to fit that list and still meet St. Charles Parish rules for wind. Epic Roofing quotes Ashton roofs from the guidelines' own list, picking lines that also carry the wind rating the parish asks for.
Ashton Owners Ask About Shingles
Is metal on the Ashton materials list?
No. The list names composition shingle, tile and slate, with copper allowed only as an accent. A material off the list is the Architectural Control Committee's decision, not ours, and if it approves metal, we can price a standing-seam roof too.
Which shingle colors count as "wood-toned"?
The guidelines do not name colors; the committee keeps examples. Bring us those examples, or a photo of a neighboring roof the committee accepted, and we match them against the colors in the lines we quote. The estimate then lists the color you pick beside the line.
Does the 7:12 minimum apply to a porch or a back addition?
The rule is written for the main roof structure and does not mention porches, bays, or additions. Where one of those is too flat to shingle, the estimate prices it apart from the main roof.
What does a shingle reroof cost on an Ashton house?
For a house measuring 2,000–2,500 square feet and moderately complex, a full architectural reroof typically costs $13,000 to $23,000. The 7:12 pitch, hips and valleys, the line you pick, and any decking that has to be replaced after tear-off set where you land. We price it at a free visit and send the estimate in writing within 2–5 business days.
Do the same roof rules apply in every phase of Ashton?
Not necessarily. The community posts separate guidelines and covenants for each phase and asks owners to use the set for their own phase, so check yours before choosing a line.
Does the committee need to see the reroof before work starts?
The guidelines require the committee's advance approval for construction, so ask whether your phase's process covers a reroof and send in the product details from our estimate so the committee's answer is in hand well before the job is put on the schedule.
Ashton Plantation Writes Its Own Shingle Rules
Ashton Plantation is a planned community in Luling, reached by Ashton Plantation Boulevard off River Road and planned for more than 1,500 homes. Its covenants include design guidelines, and the roof section of those guidelines serves as a material spec.
The main roof of a house has to rise at least 7 inches for every 12 inches of run, unless the Architectural Control Committee approves otherwise. Composition shingles are expected to have an architectural style. Roof materials may be composition shingle, tile, or slate, with copper allowed only in limited amounts as an accent. Every roof must be a wood-toned color, and the committee maintains examples of acceptable colors. The guidelines also ask that vent stacks be placed and organized so they show as little as possible from the street, and that roof forms look consistent on all sides of the house.
These roof rules appear in the Phase 1-A, 1-B and 2-A guidelines. Ashton was built in phases, each with its own guidelines and covenants, so if your home sits in another phase, read that phase's documents before choosing a shingle, since the rules there may differ.

Five Things the Ashton Guidelines Decide Before We Price
On an Ashton reroof, the guidelines answer these five questions for us:
The profile.
An architectural, laminated shingle, not a flat three-tab strip, on the main roof. The guidelines name one brand "or equivalent," so we quote a dimensional line from Atlas or CertainTeed, such as Pinnacle Pro, Landmark Pro or the heavier Presidential, and the committee judges whether it fits.
The color family.
Browns, weathered woods and similar wood tones. Light reflective colors and cool grays rarely read as wood tones, so we leave them out of the quote unless the committee has accepted them.
A steep, visible main roof.
At 7:12 or steeper, much of the roof faces the street, so straight courses and an even color across every slope matter more than on a low ranch roof. Steeper pitch also means more shingles per square foot of house and a slower, more careful setup for the crew.
What stays and what goes.
Shingle replaces shingle. Copper accent roofs over a bay or an entry are a separate material and stay outside the shingle scope. Tile and slate are also on the guidelines' list, but this scope covers shingle only.
The rooftop layout.
With the guidelines keeping vent stacks out of the street view, a reroof is the time to look at where each stack, vent, and fan cap sits and whether a new vent belongs on a rear slope, where framing and plumbing allow.
Because the guidelines require the same character on every side of the house, the rear slopes use the same line and color as the front, along with matching hip and ridge caps. A lesser shingle on the back, or a ridge cap a shade off, would show from the yard next door and from the street on a corner lot.
The Parish Side of a Luling Shingle Roof
The Ashton guidelines govern how the roof looks. St. Charles Parish governs how it holds on, and its roof-covering requirements apply to an Ashton house the same as any other in Luling. Asphalt shingles must be tested to a high-wind class, Class G or H under ASTM D7158 or Class F under ASTM D3161, and each shingle takes six nails. Under the shingles, the parish's accepted methods include two layers of underlayment held with cap nails on a tight grid, or self-adhering strips over the deck joints beneath a single layer.
Before a wood-toned architectural line goes on the estimate, we check its product data for the parish wind class, and the estimate lists that class along with the color name, nailing, and underlayment method.
We file the St. Charles Parish roofing permit for your Luling address, as we do for every reroof in our Luling roofing work; the parish accepts that application online. Each of those lines is an asphalt shingle roofing product we install on a full roof replacement, tear-off included.
