Hail Damage Roof Repair in Zachary, LA
Impact-rated shingles are a routine request on Zachary's newer, higher-end homes. After hail, we check those roofs for what a rating cannot rule out: dents, tears and lost granules on shingles that have spent years in the sun.
The Class 4 rating printed for a shingle line is a lab result. It records how that product held up when a steel ball was dropped on test samples, and a roof that has baked through several Zachary summers and sat out a hailstorm or two is no longer the sample on the test stand.
When hail is reported around Zachary, Epic Roofing reads an impact-rated roof the same way we read any other on a hail damage roof repair visit: slope by slope, for the three kinds of marks hail leaves behind. We repair the shingles that took real harm and write down the ones that did not. The inspection is free.
Zachary Hail: Mostly Quarters, Once a Golf Ball
Hail reported in and around Zachary has tended to fall in the middle sizes. The biggest stones in recent records came on the afternoon of May 14, 2008, when golf-ball hail was reported near Zachary. On June 17, 2023, quarter-size stones were reported in Zachary at about ten minutes to five, a few minutes after the same size was reported roughly seven miles west of town. Then, around 10 a.m. on May 21, 2025, quarter-size hail was reported again, just south-southwest of the city.
None of those reports reached the 2-inch ball a shingle faces to earn a Class 4 rating. On an impact-rated roof, hail in that range is less likely to split a shingle open. What it tends to leave is quieter: a shallow dent, a scuffed patch where granules came off, now and then a small tear. Marks like that are hard to see from the driveway, and easy to dismiss once someone remembers the roof is Class 4.
Class 4 shingles are common in subdivisions such as Copper Mill, and many roofs in town are fairly recent. After a hail report here, the roof in question may well be one whose owner picked the shingle with hail in mind.

How Hail Shows Up on an Impact-Rated Shingle
Sun and repeat storms wear down resistance
Early testing on shingles left outdoors shows that even a short stretch of natural weathering can measurably reduce their hail resistance, and that repeated hail can accelerate that decline. A Zachary roof that went on ten years ago, or one that took the June 2023 stones and then the May 2025 ones, may not answer the next hit the way a fresh bundle would. We do not assume it will or it won't. We go up and look.
Dents, tears, and lost granules
Independent hail testing scores impact-resistant shingles on three kinds of damage, and we read a Zachary roof for the same three. A dent is a spot where the shingle gave under a stone and stayed pushed in; on the tougher, more flexible lines it may be the only trace of a hit. A tear is a split or cut through the shingle, often near the edge of a tab. Granule loss is a bare or thinned patch where the mineral coating has been knocked away, leaving the asphalt beneath it exposed to the sun.
We fly each slope first and mark the clusters. Each suspected hit is then checked by touch, photographed close up, and labeled as a dent, a tear, or granule loss. A few scuffed granules on an otherwise sound shingle count as cosmetic. A tear, or a dent that has cracked the shingle beneath its surface, goes on the repair list, and where a hit may have let water in, we check the decking from the attic below that slope.
Class 4 Roofs After Zachary Hail: Your Questions
Quarter-size hail on a Class 4 roof: what are we likely to find?
Shallow dents and scuffed patches are the likeliest marks, with the odd small tear near a tab edge; a clean split is less likely at that size. What decides whether a mark needs work is whether the shingle under it has cracked.
Our builder's paperwork calls the shingles hail-resistant. Is that the same as Class 4?
Not necessarily. Impact ratings range from Class 1 to Class 4, and sales language can describe any of them or a shingle with no rating at all. The only sure answer is the exact product line and its published rating.
How do we find out which shingle line our house has?
Your closing documents or the builder's selection sheet may name the maker and the line. If they don't, a leftover bundle in the garage or attic may still carry its wrapper, and the close-up photos from the visit help narrow it down.
If only a few impact-rated shingles were hit, what goes back in their place?
More of your impact-rated line, in your color, while the maker still makes it. A retired line means choosing its nearest impact-rated successor with us first. How a roof with two products on it is treated under your policy is a question to ask your insurer.
After the storm, we found dull, scuffed spots but no cracks. Should we be concerned?
Not urgently. A spot where granules were knocked loose rarely leaks right away. A bare patch does age faster than the shingle around it, so we photograph each one; if they cluster on one slope, we talk through whether patching them is worth it.
Do our photos go to the insurer?
Only if you send them; the photos and written findings belong to you. If you file and invite us, someone from Epic joins the adjuster on the roof. Louisiana RS 22:1684 bars roofers from serving as public adjusters, so we do not negotiate or settle claims.

Zachary Hail Repair Costs, One Slope or Several
Swapping a few torn or cracked impact-rated shingles on one face of the roof usually costs $400 to $1,800. Tears on several faces, or hits through to vents and flashing, mean $2,000 to $5,000. Dents and scuffs the report labels as cosmetic are not priced.
If tears appear on most slopes, a roof replacement in Zachary comes up in the discussion. Wind that rode in with the hail can lift and crease shingles too, and that damage calls for storm damage roof repair in Zachary, not a hail patch. The inspection is free of charge with nothing collected up front, and your written estimate arrives within 2–5 business days.
