Insurance Claim Roofing in Baton Rouge, LA

The grant lottery has passed East Baton Rouge by. Another route the state points to for a FORTIFIED roof runs through your homeowners policy, and it starts with a question for your agent.

Baton Rouge owners who look into a FORTIFIED roof run into the same fact: none of the grant lotteries held since September 2024 has included East Baton Rouge Parish. The state lists two other ways to get there. One is paying for the roof yourself. The other is a FORTIFIED endorsement on your homeowners policy.

The policy side belongs to your agent; Epic Roofing sells no insurance and reads no policies. Our side of insurance claim roofing is the roof itself, from the inspection before any claim to a FORTIFIED build if your insurer approves one.

Left Off the Lottery, Reached by an Offer Law

The policy route matters here because the grant map has stopped short of this parish: even the round that stretched the lottery to several inland parishes left East Baton Rouge off, and whether a future round adds it is up to the state. Rebuilding a damaged roof is a live question in East Baton Rouge, where Ida in 2021 and Francine in 2024 both brought down trees and power lines.

A state law passed in 2023 works through insurance instead. Any authorized insurer writing homeowners policies in Louisiana must offer an endorsement that upgrades a home without a FORTIFIED roof to the IBHS FORTIFIED roof standard if the owner has damage covered by the policy that requires the roof to be replaced. The upgrade follows the FORTIFIED requirements for the area where the house stands. Insurers have to make the offer when writing a new policy on such a home and at the first renewal of an existing policy after December 31, 2023. Ask your agent how this applies to your policy.

Read closely, that offer carries three conditions. The endorsement must be on the policy. The damage must be covered. And the damage must call for a new roof. A roofer decides none of them. Your agent can speak to the first, and your insurer decides the other two.

The state puts the result plainly: with the endorsement, your insurance company can replace your roof to the FORTIFIED standard when it is damaged in a covered event. For a Baton Rouge owner considering a FORTIFIED roof, the renewal packet is worth reading before the next storm season.

Questions to Put to Your Baton Rouge Agent

Put these to your agent; our roofers cannot answer them for you:

Was the FORTIFIED endorsement offered, and is it on our policy?

The law put the offer at a new policy or at the first renewal after the end of 2023. Ask whether it shows on your current declarations, and if it does not, whether it can be added.

What does it cost?

Insurers had to file their endorsement forms and rates with the state, so your agent can quote a price for your policy.

What will the upgrade be built to?

The statute ties it to the FORTIFIED requirements for the home's geographic area. Ask what that means for a house in East Baton Rouge Parish.

Keep the answers with the policy. If a storm does reach your roof, they are where the conversation with your adjuster starts.

If Your Policy Carries the Endorsement

Did our insurer have to offer us a FORTIFIED endorsement? +

The statute requires authorized insurers to make the offer on any new policy for a home without a FORTIFIED roof and on an existing policy at its first renewal after 2023 ended. Whether you received it and whether you took it are in your paperwork. Ask your agent how this applies to your policy.

Storm damage hit only part of our roof. Does the endorsement make that section FORTIFIED? +

The statute links the endorsement to covered damage that requires the roof to be replaced, and whether your damage meets that is for your insurer and adjuster to decide. We photograph and describe the condition of each slope so they have the facts at hand.

If the insurer approves a FORTIFIED replacement, what does Epic do differently? +

The build is the same FORTIFIED roofing in Baton Rouge a self-funded owner gets, to the same standard and with the same photos for the IBHS evaluator. Who pays does not change the standard.

Can you predict whether our insurer will cover the cost of a FORTIFIED roof? +

No. Whether a loss is covered, and whether it calls for a FORTIFIED roof under the endorsement, is your insurer's decision. We can show you the roof's condition and explain what a FORTIFIED build would involve on your house.

We might pay for a FORTIFIED roof ourselves. Is the endorsement still worth asking about? +

They are separate routes. A self-funded roof goes on when you decide; the endorsement only comes into play after a covered loss calls for a new roof. Which fits depends on your roof's age and budget, and the price of the endorsement is a question for your agent.

Who files the claim if a storm damages our Baton Rouge roof? +

You do, with your insurer. Our photos and scope go to you to submit with it.

From Inspection to an Approved FORTIFIED Build

Before anyone decides whether the damage is covered and calls for a new roof, someone has to record what the roof looks like. Our free inspection does that: drone photos of every slope, attic notes where there is access, and an itemized scope in a CompanyCam album within 2–5 business days, with no deposit taken.

Louisiana RS 22:1684 bars roofers from serving as public adjusters, so we do not negotiate or settle claims. Under the endorsement, which has a specific meaning: whether a loss is covered, whether the roof qualifies for replacement, and whether the endorsement applies are calls we leave alone. Ask us to join the adjuster's visit, and we'll show the adjuster each slope we photographed. State Farm, Allstate, National General, Louisiana Citizens and USAA adjusters have all walked roofs with our crew. No contractor may legally cover or waive a deductible in Louisiana.

When an insurer approves a FORTIFIED replacement, the job is built to the standard from tear-off on, an IBHS evaluator gets a photo file of each stage that ends up hidden, and IBHS makes the certification call. Questions about any premium credit for the finished roof go to your insurance company. Joey Noto runs Epic himself, and on any Baton Rouge roofing job the people who inspect your roof are the ones who build it, without subcontractors.

Not every roof waits on a claim: a leak today calls for Baton Rouge roof repair, and a worn roof with no covered loss behind it can come off as a standard, self-funded roof replacement in Baton Rouge.
