Roof Leak Detection & Repair in Kenner, LA

Some Kenner roofs stay dry through ordinary rain and leak only in a downpour. We find the valley, eave or low slope where water arrives faster than the roof can drain it, and repair that spot.

A ceiling that stays dry for months, then drips during the hardest hour of a summer storm, is telling you about rain rate. Kenner keeps an unusually good record of how hard it can rain. The official gauge for the New Orleans airport is located inside the city, and its log records some very wet days and years.

Epic Roofing traces these leaks to the overflowing channel, repairs the roof side, and documents each step with photos. The goal is a roof sized for the water it has to move, from a light shower to a cloudburst.

What Kenner's Rain Gauge Has Recorded

The airport's records go back to 1947. In 1991 the gauge collected 102.37 inches, the only year on its list above 100 and about 17 inches more than the runner-up, 1983, at 85.30. That volume reached valley flow lines, sidewall terminations, and low-pitch planes that get through a normal year without trouble. May 1995 holds the monthly record at 21.18 inches, and May 1991 ranks third at 14.28 inches. That puts 1991 on both lists: a heavy month inside the heaviest year.

Much of that May 1995 total fell in a single night. On the night of May 8, much of the area received 4 inches or more of rain, and the airport gauge recorded the most: 12.4 inches. Rain arriving that fast tests a roof in a way a slow soaking does not.

Rate and volume are two separate tests

A roof drains through a handful of channels: the valleys, the eaves, and the low slopes that carry water off the house. In a cloudburst, what matters is whether those channels can move water as fast as it lands. Over a wet year, what matters is whether details that stay damp for weeks keep it out. A roof can pass one test and fail the other, and the repair differs for each.

When a Kenner Downpour Outruns the Roof

Three parts of a roof tend to give way first when the rain comes too hard or for too long:

Valleys at cloudburst rates:

A long valley under a broad plane collects a great deal of water. When rain arrives faster than the channel can empty, water climbs its edges and gets under the shingles along the flow line. We measure what feeds each valley, check the metal or the cut shingles in the channel, and look for nails driven too close to its center.

The roof edge:

When a downpour overflows the gutter and the drip edge is too narrow or was never installed, water curls back over the fascia and soaks the starter course and the edge of the deck. These stains usually show along an outside wall or in the soffit.

Low slopes and sidewalls in long wet spells:

Porch roofs, patio covers and other low-pitch planes move water slowly, and the underlayment beneath them can stay wet for days. Where a slope meets a wall, flashing that sheds a short storm can let water wick through after a week of rain. These leaks build gradually and often show as a widening ring.

A garden-hose test can show where a valley or edge leaks, but it falls far short of a cloudburst. So the visit adds what a hose misses: how much roof area drains into each channel, whether the metal is wide enough, and what the attic shows along the overflow path. On a house that has leaked before, infrared and a moisture meter reveal wet decking that looks dry from above. The findings are documented in a written report with photos of each overflow point, so you can see why a given valley or edge made the list.

How Kenner Leak Repairs Are Priced

Where one channel is at fault, the repair is priced at $500 to $2,000 for wider valley metal, added drip edge along an eave, or new sidewall flashing. If a downpour has overrun more than one channel, or the decking beneath a valley needs to be replaced, the price ranges from $2,200 to $5,500.

Your written estimate arrives within 2–5 business days. A written workmanship warranty backs the repair, with terms set down in the scope and a shorter run than a replacement roof's coverage.

Kenner Ceilings That Drip Only in Downpours

Why does our Kenner roof leak only in the hardest rain? +

At a normal pace, the valleys and eaves carry the water away. Once rain falls faster than it can drain, it backs up and reaches laps that stay dry for the rest of the year. The repair usually adds capacity at that one spot, such as wider valley metal or a longer drip edge.

Can you find a downpour leak when it's dry outside? +

Often, with limits. The attic usually holds a water trail, and the overflow point tends to show wear, staining, or a short drip edge. When the evidence stays thin, we tell you so and note what to watch in the next heavy rain.

Our gutters are clean. Why does water still come in at the eave? +

A gutter has a fixed capacity, and a hard enough downpour fills even a clean one. Whether that overflow stays outside depends on the metal at the roof edge and the first course of shingles, and those are what we check and correct.

Can a valley be rebuilt to carry more water? +

Often it can. An open metal valley moves water faster than a closed one, and wider metal gives a heavy flow more room before it reaches the shingle edges. A valley reline is one of the repairs we price, and the photos show whether yours needs one.

We only see the stain after several days of rain. What does that mean? +

That pattern points to a slow leak driven by volume: a low slope or a sidewall where the underlayment stays wet long enough to let water through. It calls for a different repair from a cloudburst leak, usually flashing or underlayment work at that spot.

Should we keep track of when it leaks? +

Yes. Note the date, roughly how hard it was raining and how long before the drip started, and photograph the stain each time. A few entries can tell us whether we are chasing rain rate or rain volume before anyone climbs.
