Roof Repair in Hammond, LA
Leak, flashing, and storm repairs for Hammond homes, matched to the roof already on the house and documented with photos before work starts.
A repair on a Hammond roof has to blend into the surrounding shingles. In parts of the city zoned Residential Preservation, as written into the zoning code, roofing on an existing house can be replaced only with identical material unless the whole roof is redone. So a patch starts with three questions: what product is on your roof, whether it is still made, and whether your parcel falls under that rule.
Joey Noto started Epic Roofing in Mandeville in 2020, and each Hammond roofing job is logged in CompanyCam from the first photo to the final cleanup.
Mid-Century Hammond and the Rules a Repair Follows
Central Hammond is a mid-century city at its core. In a state-funded survey of the city's center in 2017 and 2018, ranch houses were the most common form, Mid-Century Modern was the most common named style, and more than half the buildings were already 50 years old. Their low rooflines and aging materials decide how a repair is done.
The identical-material rule
Hammond's Unified Development Code, as published, allows composition, asphalt, slate, tile, or standing-seam metal on houses in the Residential Preservation district. For an existing house there, a partial replacement must use the same material already on the roof. A different product is allowed only when all the roofing is removed and replaced with one of the approved materials. If you are in that district and your shingle line has been discontinued, we raise it on the first visit, since a repair that cannot match may turn into a reroof decision.
Low-pitch sections on mid-century houses
The survey found some of the city's best modern houses in the Cate Addition, built in a local style called Acadian Modernism. Hammond houses by architect John Desmond and many of the ranch houses in College Park and University Place often feature shallow planes, flat porch roofs, and carport tie-ins. The code puts a floor under shingles: none below a 2:12 pitch, and double underlayment between 2:12 and 4:12. A leak on a flat section gets a membrane or metal repair. A shingle patch on a flat slope is outside code and tends to leak again.
Pre-1930 houses in Adams-Lillie
Adams-Lillie holds Hammond's first houses; about two-thirds of the ones surveyed there were built before 1930. On a house that old, the leak tends to sit at a chimney, a valley, or a dormer wall, and board decking may lie under the current shingles. We open only what the repair needs, replace failed flashing, and leave sound material in place.
From Drone Photos to a Written Hammond Estimate
The inspection is free, and we take no deposit at the consultation. Four steps come before any roof repair price:
Drone photos of the whole roof:
We shoot every plane, so the problem area is seen next to the rest of the roof, and the match can be judged from the pictures.
An attic check where we can get in:
Water runs along the rafters before it shows up on the ceiling. On low-pitch sections, we look for stains at the transition, where these leaks start.
Infrared or a moisture meter when there is leak history:
On a flat porch roof, wet insulation or decking can hide under a surface that looks dry.
A written estimate with photos within 2–5 business days:
It lists the product we will match and includes a permit line when the work requires one.
If the photos show the roof is past saving, we say so and price a Hammond roof replacement next to the repair so you can compare.
Before You Patch a Hammond Roof
My house may be in Hammond's Residential Preservation zoning. Can you patch it with a different shingle?
If the parcel is in that district, the code calls for identical material on a partial replacement. Hammond's zoning map shows whether your parcel is in it, and we look for the same product on your roof. If it is no longer made, we tell you before you spend money on a patch, and we price a full reroof in an approved material as the other option.
Can the flat roof over my carport be fixed with shingles?
Only if it is pitched steeply enough for shingles, and many mid-century carports and porch roofs in Hammond are not. Those get a membrane or metal repair, tied into the main roof at the transition, which is the spot that leaks most.
Water is coming in under the carport or porch roof right now. What should I do first?
Move what you can, catch the drip, and call 225-396-8122 during business hours. Tell us water is coming in; a tarp or temporary seal comes before the permanent repair.
Do you repair the modern houses in the Cate Addition?
Yes. Those roofs often mix shallow planes, flat sections, and built-in drainage. We trace the water, repair the membrane or metal where it failed, and keep the house's original lines.
How do I know if my Hammond roof can still be repaired?
It depends on the field shingles around the leak. If they lie flat, hold their granules, and bend when lifted, a repair makes sense. If they snap, or the leak is one of several, we show you the photos and price both paths.
Is a Hammond repair handled differently from one in Covington or Ponchatoula?
The inspection, photo record, and written estimate are the same. The identical-material zoning rule is the Hammond difference; on a Covington roof repair or a Ponchatoula roofing job, we check that city's own rules instead.
What Hammond Repairs Run
A single-issue repair, such as a pipe boot, a flashing run or a small storm patch, falls between $400 and $1,800. Repairs that reach several areas of the roof run $2,000 to $5,000. The estimate breaks out materials, labor, and any permit line, so you can see where the total comes from.
Hammond Sign-Offs and Storm Claims
Since August 1, 2025, any city or parish in Louisiana that issues building permits must also issue and inspect permits for each reroofing of a one- or two-family home. That statute covers reroofs; whether a given repair requires a permit is up to the City of Hammond within city limits or Tangipahoa Parish outside them. When a repair does need one, we pull it, and the fee is a separate line item on the estimate. If the house sits within the local historic district, check with the Hammond Historic District Commission before roof work starts; its design guidelines treat like-for-like roofing as minor work that staff can approve.
When a storm caused the leak
We provide the photos, measurements, and a written scope, and we can be on the roof when the adjuster visits if you invite us. Louisiana RS 22:1684 bars roofers from serving as public adjusters, so we do not negotiate or settle claims. No contractor may legally cover or waive a deductible in Louisiana. The policies we see for Hammond repairs come from State Farm, Allstate, National General, Louisiana Citizens, and USAA, among other carriers.
The Crew Behind a Hammond Repair
Epic is still run by the person who started it, and on a Hammond repair that shows up in three ways:
Our own crew
The Epic crew that diagnoses the leak also fixes it. We do not hand Hammond work to subcontractors.
An owner trained in construction management
Joey studied it at LSU and ran commercial construction projects in Baton Rouge for ten years before starting Epic.
A written warranty and a photo file you keep
Each repair carries a written workmanship warranty with its terms spelled out in the scope; it is shorter than our replacement warranty. The CompanyCam album stays with you for a sale or a future claim.
