When US-90 was first designated, it left New Orleans on River Road through Luling, turned up Paul Maillard Road, and followed what is now Old Spanish Trail toward Des Allemands. The highway carrying the US-90 name through Boutte today came in the 1930s, and most of the town's houses came later still, as the subdivisions and strip malls the parish history describes filled in along the newer road.
