Roof repair in Port Allen

Port Allen grew with the plants built here in the 1950s, and on a house from those years, a repair visit starts by noting what covering is on the roof now and how it is fastened. More on roof repair.

Roof replacement in Port Allen

The median Port Allen home was built in 1962, according to Census Bureau estimates for 2019 to 2023. A 2,000- to 2,500-square-foot house falls in our $13,000 to $23,000 band, and any rotted decking found at tear-off is priced as an allowance. See roof replacement.

FORTIFIED roofing in Port Allen

Wind damage like Gustav's 2008 sweep through greater Baton Rouge is what a FORTIFIED reroof is built against. See FORTIFIED roofing.

Insurance claim roofing in Port Allen

If a claim follows a hail or wind warning, our photos, measurements, and written scope go into the adjuster's file. See insurance claim roofing.

Storm damage roof repair in Port Allen

On May 27, 2025, a storm warning for Port Allen called for damaging gusts; wind like that is why a storm visit here starts at the edges and ridge. See storm damage repair.

Hail damage roof repair in Port Allen

Severe storm warnings for Port Allen have called for hail, and hail can bruise a shingle without breaking it; a dated photo of each mark lets you weigh a claim with evidence in hand. See hail damage repair.

Asphalt shingle roofing in Port Allen

When a Port Allen reroof switches to architectural shingles, the estimate lists the line and color you choose, along with their prices. See asphalt shingle roofing.

Standing-seam metal in Port Allen

Standing-seam panels run in single lengths from ridge to eave, so wind-driven rain finds no horizontal laps to push into. See standing-seam metal.

Composite slate in Port Allen

Near the museum grounds on North Jefferson Avenue, where the Aillet House dates to about 1830, DaVinci composite slate is the synthetic option for a slate roofline. See composite slate.

Roof inspection in Port Allen

In those same 2019 to 2023 estimates, about one Port Allen home in five predates 1940; before you buy one, the inspection should reach the attic decking, not just the slopes. See roof inspection.

Leak detection in Port Allen

The D'Agostino Building downtown was built of brick carried from river-bank properties. Where flashing meets brick like that, wind-driven rain can get in sideways, so a leak trace here starts at those joints. See leak detection.

Emergency repair and tarping in Port Allen

On Michigan Avenue or the lettered avenues, a wind-torn slope gets a tarp once we book it during business hours, starting with the side the wind hit first. See emergency repair.

What Gustav Did This Far Inland

Hurricane Gustav came ashore far to the south in 2008, yet significant wind damage was reported all the way through the greater Baton Rouge area. Trees fell across the region.

Port Allen Claim and FORTIFIED Questions

Should I call my insurer before or after you look at the roof? +

If we look first, you can make that call with our photos and measurements in hand.

Can a fairly new roof be upgraded to FORTIFIED? +

The certificate depends on work at the bare deck, so it is best suited to a full replacement. With young shingles, we can outline what a later FORTIFIED reroof involves.

Does every homeowner qualify for the Fortify Homes grant? +

No. Each grant round has covered only the parishes the state listed for it, and West Baton Rouge was not on the Round 9 list. Recipients were picked by lottery; a roof job begun before the program's approval was not eligible, and fortifyhomes.la.gov posts any later round. At the visit, we can go over what the roof itself would need.

Does the Port Allen Cultural District put rules on my roof? +

The designation comes from a state program meant to build a hub of cultural activity, and its tax credits are used to rehabilitate historic buildings that generate revenue. The program's overview lists no design review for homes.

The Lock and the Plants

The Port Allen Lock, completed in 1961 on Ernest Wilson Drive, connects the Mississippi River and the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway. Beyond it runs the Morgan City–Port Allen route, a 160-mile shortcut for barges. Between the lock, the port, and plants built in the 1950s, commercial roofs here run from storefronts to industrial buildings.

Court Street Permits, Then the Insurer

Roofs inside Port Allen's city limits are permitted by the City of Port Allen's Permits & Inspections office at City Hall, 375 Court Street. Since August 1, 2025, state law has required cities that issue permits to issue and inspect permits for reroofs on one- and two-family homes.

Louisiana RS 22:1684 bars roofers from serving as public adjusters, so we do not negotiate or settle claims. Carriers we work with include State Farm, Allstate, National General, Louisiana Citizens, and USAA. No contractor may legally cover or waive a deductible in Louisiana.

Port Allen Inland From the Levee

  • Court Street to the levee: City Hall and the blocks between.
  • North Jefferson and North Alexander avenues: the West Baton Rouge Museum campus, the D'Agostino Building, and the parish government offices.
  • Michigan Avenue, Rosedale Street, and the lettered avenues: residential streets inland from the river.

Commercial Roofing in Port Allen

Flat roofs between Court Street and the lock

From storefronts to the industrial buildings around the port, we handle TPO, EPDM, modified bitumen, built-up, metal, and roof coatings under LA Commercial license CL69991. Written bids take 5–10 business days. See Commercial Roofing.

After the Drone, the Attic

The drone covers each slope first; inside, any stain gets a moisture reading, and we check the attic for a way in. You pay nothing for that visit; the estimate we write from it, photos attached, comes 2–5 business days later.
