Roof Repair in Marrero, LA

Wind repairs for Marrero roofs start where the damage begins: at the sealant strip under each lifted tab and at the joints where carports and covers meet the house.

Lift the corner of a wind-loosened shingle on a Marrero roof, and the cause is right there. The strip of factory sealant that bonded that tab to the course below has let go, and nothing has stuck it back. A tab in that state rattles in each gust, works its nails loose, and creases at the nail line until it tears away. A wind repair often starts with that broken bond.

Epic Roofing is Joey Noto's own company, based in Mandeville. It is owner-run, and no subcontractor works a Marrero roof for us.

How a Marrero Shingle Loses Its Seal

An asphalt shingle is held down two ways. Nails resist the pull, and a line of sealant, softened by the sun until it bonds the tab to the shingle beneath, keeps wind out from under the edge. Once wind lifts a tab that has lost its bond, the shingle bends at the nail line. A crease there cracks the mat inside it, and a creased tab seldom lies flat again.

Shingle makers note that sealing can be slow when shingles go on in cool weather, slower still if dust settles on the strip, and that hand sealing may be needed when tabs have not bonded after a reasonable time. That guidance matters in Marrero, where two surveyed tornado tracks both came in December.

Two December tracks

On Christmas Day 2012, a short EF-0 touched down in the Oak Knoll subdivision near Glenwood Drive and Dueling Oaks Avenue. The survey found mostly shingle and tree damage, plus a few wrecked metal carports. On December 14, 2022, an EF-2 came in from the southwest, damaged a roof near Luther and Mather drives, and hit three homes hard near Betty Street and Deana Street.

When wind damage arrives in winter, as both of these tracks did, the tabs we replace or re-fasten afterward go on when the sun is weakest, and the manufacturer's hand-sealing guidance applies. The damage also runs in narrow bands; the 2012 path was about 30 yards across at its widest. One street can lose tabs while the next keeps its shingles, so a neighbor's roof tells you little about yours.

What Goes Into a Marrero Seal Repair

The inspection is free, and the consultation carries no deposit. Drone photos cover each slope; the attic gets a look where access allows; and an infrared camera or a moisture meter comes out if a leak has shown up inside. The repair has four parts:

  • Finding the broken bonds: A tab that lifted and dropped back can look flat from the street. We test tabs by hand along the eaves, rakes and ridge, where wind gets its first grip, and photograph each loose one up close.
  • Replacing creased shingles: A crease means the mat inside has cracked, so that shingle comes out. Reaching its nails means lifting the course above, and those tabs get resealed too.
  • Fastening to the maker's nail line: New nails go where the shingle maker places them, into solid wood, and the old holes are sealed.
  • Sealing by hand: Replaced tabs, re-fastened tabs, and any neighbors showing no bond get sealant set under the edge by hand where the manufacturer's method calls for it, rather than waiting for the sun.

A written estimate with photos follows within 2–5 business days. If loose tabs turn up across most of the roof, the sealant itself may be spent, and we lay out roof replacement in Marrero beside the repair.

Carport and Patio Cover Joints on Older Marrero Houses

Metal carports were on the 2012 damage list. Marrero's median home dates to about 1972, and many houses from that era carry a carport, a patio cover, or a low back addition joined to the main roof.

A metal cover that lifts in a gust pulls on whatever ties it to the house: the flashing tucked under the shingles above and the screws through the edge of the main roof. When it tears loose, it can leave open holes and bent flashing, and rain runs along the wall and inside.

We treat that joint as part of the roof. Bent or torn flashing where the cover meets the house is replaced, the holes left in the main roof are repaired, and the shingles along that edge are re-fastened and sealed.

Lifted Tabs and Torn Carports in Marrero, Answered

The December 2022 track missed our house by a block. Is the roof still worth checking? +

It is worth a look if limbs came down on your street or you found shingle pieces in the yard. A loosened tab along an edge is easy to miss from the driveway, and dated photos show what we found.

Will the loose shingles on our Marrero roof reseal on their own once the summer heat arrives? +

Some can. A tab that never bonded but is otherwise sound may stick when the roof gets hot, provided dust has not fouled the strip. A tab that has creased or torn will stay loose, and on an older roof, the sealant can be too dry to grab. Waiting leaves them exposed until then.

Our metal carport roof tore loose. Does fixing it fall under roof repair? +

The part that joins the house does. Leaks after a carport lifts usually start at the wall joint and at the screw holes it left in the main roof, so that is what we repair and photograph. If the posts or frame are damaged, that is structural work outside a roof repair, and the estimate says so.

Rain is getting in where our patio cover meets the wall. How do we hold it until the crew reaches Marrero? +

Clear furniture and electronics away from that wall and set something under the drip. Then call 225-396-8122 during business hours and tell us where the water shows. Stopping the water comes first; the permanent flashing repair follows the inspection.

Our 1960s house has a shingle that is no longer made. What will the repaired area look like? +

Close, not identical. Decades of sun have faded what is up there, and new shingles shift a little from one production run to the next. We find the closest current match, show it to you alongside your old shingles before work starts, and record what happened.

Can't you just glue the loose tabs back down? +

Not on its own. Sealant under a tab whose nails have worked loose is no substitute for fastening, so we re-fasten first and seal second.

Marrero Seal Repair Price Bands

One area of re-nailing and resealing is $400–$1,800, whether it is the tabs on a single rake or the flashing at one carport joint. When loose tabs run across several slopes, or a cover tore free and took shingles with it, the job becomes multi-area work at $2,000–$5,000.

The tabs we fasten and seal are covered by a written workmanship warranty; your scope outlines its terms, and it lasts less time than the warranty on a new roof. If a storm claim is open, we supply the photos and written scope and, if you invite us, stand on the roof with the adjuster. Louisiana RS 22:1684 bars roofers from serving as public adjusters, so we do not negotiate or settle claims. No contractor may legally cover or waive a deductible in Louisiana.
