The same storm can strip a handful of shingles from one Harvey roof and lift another roof off its house. Epic Roofing repairs most of what falls between, from torn shingles to broken deck sheets, after a free inspection that shows how far the damage reached.

The December 2022 Tornado and West Harvey Roofs

On the afternoon of December 14, 2022, an EF-2 tornado set down about a mile southwest of Marrero and moved northeast into Marrero and Harvey, leaving widespread structural damage along its path. The damage survey that followed found that on the west side of Harvey, a couple of homes had lost their roofs completely, with walls collapsed and the houses shifted off their foundations. Other homes along the same stretch sustained minor roof and wall damage.

That range is why our storm damage roof repair visits in Harvey do not stop at the shingles. Torn tabs and a peeled ridge are one kind of repair. A cracked deck sheet or a rafter that shifted is another, and a roof that left the house is a replacement. Damaging wind here has not come only from tornadoes: in March 2011, straight-line winds toppled power poles along Manhattan Boulevard.

By census estimates, roughly half of Harvey's houses were built before the mid-1970s. For an older house, the attic check for roofing in Harvey storm work also looks at how the deck and rafters have held up. If the damage calls for a new roof, the Jefferson Parish permit is within our scope; under state law, parishes that issue construction permits have had to issue permits and inspect reroofing on one- and two-family homes since August 1, 2025. If a smaller repair requires its own permit, we file for it too.

Wind Damage We Repair on Harvey Roofs

Along the ridge:

Stripped ridge cap is replaced. Any ridge vent or vent cap the wind knocked out of line is reset too, because the shingle warranty depends on balanced attic airflow.

At the edges and walls:

Torn shingles along the eaves and rakes are replaced, and chimney, sidewall, or valley flashing that shifted is refastened or renewed.

Across the open slopes:

Missing or creased shingles come from the product line already on the roof, or the closest one still made if that line is discontinued, and are sealed as the maker directs. Broken sheathing underneath is cut out and replaced with new plywood, and the soaked underlayment is replaced before the shingles go back over it.

Damaged framing: an engineer first:

Epic does not do structural framing. When a rafter or truss is damaged, the job is coordinated with a Louisiana-licensed structural engineer and the framer, and our roof scope is finalized once the structural side is settled.

Four Steps Between the Storm and a Sound Roof

1

Inspection and a written scope:

We photograph the roof from a drone and inspect the deck from the attic, using infrared wherever water could be hiding. Within 2–5 business days, the CompanyCam report arrives with an itemized scope naming the shingle line and underlayment, and both stay with you whatever you decide. No deposit changes hands at the consultation.

2

If you file a claim:

Opening one is up to you. When you invite us, someone from our crew meets the adjuster on site as the contractor, not your representative, and points out what the photos show. If you pay directly, this step drops out.

3

The work itself:

Our own crew makes the repair with the beds below tarped, then sweeps the yard and drive with a magnet before leaving.

4

The finished record:

Photos of the completed work join the same album, and the signed workmanship warranty on the repair is emailed with them.

Questions After Wind Hits a Harvey Roof

Our Harvey house sat near the December 2022 tornado path and only lost a few shingles. Could there be damage we cannot see from the yard? +

Homes away from the worst of a track can look untouched from the curb and still have lifted flashing, or underlayment left open to the next rain where shingles came off. The drone photos and a look at the deck from the attic settle it either way.

A house on our block lost its whole roof. How do you decide whether ours gets repaired or replaced? +

By how much sound roof is left. If the deck and framing held and the damage is limited to one or two slopes, a repair is usually the answer. When the deck is compromised across much of the roof, replacement is. When it is close, we price both so you can compare them.

Can the repair wait until hurricane season is over? +

That is your call, but a torn or unsealed area can take in water with each rain, and the next strong wind can get an easier start where the last one left off. If water is already coming in, do not wait: emergency roof repair puts a temporary cover on first.

Will your photos help if we decide to file a claim? +

They give you a dated record of the damage, slope by slope, plus a priced scope. Louisiana RS 22:1684 bars roofers from serving as public adjusters, so we do not negotiate or settle claims.

Part of our roof was redone after an earlier storm. Can new damage be told apart from the old repair? +

Usually, yes. Newer shingles and older ones tend to differ in color and wear, and the report notes which areas show fresh damage. If you have photos or receipts from the earlier work, they help us date it.

Harvey Storm Work, Priced by How Far the Damage Reached

Where wind has taken most of a roof, we price a new one instead, as a roof replacement in Harvey that runs $13,000 to $23,000 for a Harvey home of 2,000 to 2,500 square feet. Damage that broke through the deck in several spots, or covers several faces of the roof, is usually a $2,000 to $5,000 repair. A single area, such as a run of lifted shingles or a bent valley flashing, costs $400 to $1,800.

A leak that was there before the storm gets fixed too, priced as a roof repair in Harvey so it stays out of the storm scope. When hail fell with the wind, the strikes are tested separately as hail damage roof repair in Harvey. If you plan to file, our role stops at documenting and repairing, which is how insurance claim roofing in Harvey works.
